Modeling Building insulation in oemof

Dear all,

we are trying to include building insulation into our oemof tool.

We considered that it might be possible placing an investment decision on the different insulation types, reducing the energy demand.

e.g.
Invest in new windows reducing the U-value and the losses due to transmission.

A second aspect which leads to more complicated implementation is that it has to be possible to invest in more than one insulation type. If this is done the relative energy saving potentials have to be multiplied.

Did someone considered this topic in more detail or has any idea on solving this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @GregorB, the following paper might be of interest. That study also considered a novel controllable insulation technology known as switchable transparent insulation (STI) — which was trialed but never deployed to my knowledge:

And the related modeling documentation (in German) for more background on the techniques used:

  • Bruckner, Thomas (2001). Benutzerhandbuch ‘‘deeco’’ — Version 1.0 [User handbook ‘‘deeco’’ — Version 1.0] (in German). Berlin, Germany: Institut für Energietechnik (IET), Technische Universität Berlin. doi:10.5281/zenodo.5148149. 239 pages.

Note that this was a modeling exercise and there was no breakdown of housing stocks by type, uptake potentials, and so forth. See also this recent posting on that question. HTH R
