Research Software Engineer in sustainable infrastructure systems group, University of Oxford

The sustainable infrastructure systems research group in the School of Geography and the Environment in the University of Oxford is looking for a Research Software Engineer at grade 7 or 8 (salary bands approximately £32-40k or £41-49k), with a 24-month fixed-term contract in the first instance. Deadline for applications is Monday 13th September at 12noon BST.

We work on analysis and simulation of energy, water, transport, digital systems at different scales around the world - for example, looking at future urban development and impacts on habitats/biodiversity in the “Oxford-Cambridge Arc”, or flood risks to global transport and power networks and knock-on economic effects under future climates.

There are plenty of strands of work to get involved in, and collaborations within and beyond the university (We recently worked on a collaborative project with KTH and the Energy and Power Group in Oxford, and we also regularly work with organisations like the UK’s Alan Turing Institute, local and national governments, infrastructure operators and regulators, and international organisations).

A note on the job advert - this is listed as a grade 8 position with the possibility of hiring at grade 7 with less experience, and either level of experience would be welcome. We would like to find someone with a collaborative attitude and interest in the work. At the lower grade, that likely means less experience and a bit more guidance needed. At the higher grade, that likely involves more engagement with planning, coaching and coordination. In either case, there should be an opportunity to develop in the role.

Do get in touch with me directly if you have any questions.

All the best,
Tom
