PUDL v2024.10.0 is out with hourly renewable generation profiles by (US) county

Hi y’all,

We just put out a new PUDL data release, v2024.10.0. See the announcement on GitHub.

For the first time this release includes hourly, county-level wind and solar generation profiles, which have been released by Chris Clack / Vibrant Clean Energy / Pattern Energy, with support from GridLab. This was announced at ESIG’s fall technical workshop yesterday. Here’s a short note with the press release on the Catalyst website.

We’ve got an example notebook up on Kaggle if you want to mess around with the new renewable generation profile data.

We hope this open data makes your lives easier. Please let us know if you’re using it, or have any trouble accessing it! We love to know where the data has gone to make a difference in the world.

Cheers,
Zane
