Following the proposal set on power circuits earlier this year, the MapYourGrid initiative had spent some time to propose a refinement on the existing OpenStreetMap tagging for power generation facilities, plants and generators.
It’s a pretty long document, because broad material and many practices already exist on this field. It hasn’t been challenged as such since 2013.
However, changing tagging of more than 5 millions features is not a simple thing.
We aim to simplify some existing ontology, take care of emerging technologies and enlarge the diversity of covered features to get a better tagging for by-products (combined heat and power, district heating, cooling…).

Examples of modeled facilities are available at the bottom of the document. There is this one in particular which is a an attempt to fit the Stuttgart-Münster combined heat and power facility in, i have investigated with @johannes.hampp
