I am looking for one or more postdoctoral or more senior research associate positions to join my Princeton Zero-carbon Energy systems Research and Optimization Laboratory (ZERO Lab). Please help spread the word or consider applying.
About the research program
The ZERO Lab focuses on improving and applying optimization-based macro-energy systems models to evaluate and optimize low-carbon energy technologies, guide investment and research in innovative energy technologies, and generate insights to improve energy and climate policy and planning decisions.
Research associates may contribute to any of the ZERO Lab’s three core research areas
(1) Models and methods: improve optimization-based macro-energy systems modeling tools and methods to understand complex energy systems and provide improved decision support for a changing energy sector.
(2) Technology evaluation: use macro-scale energy systems models to evaluate and optimize emerging low-carbon energy technologies, identify key cost and performance improvements, and provide insights to inform and target engineering research and public and private-sector investment in energy RD&D.
(3) Energy transitions & policy: uses macro-energy systems models to generate decision-relevant insights to guide national and sub-national jurisdictions in transitioning to net-zero emissions energy systems.
Applicants
Applicants will have prior experience in optimization methods and applied energy system modeling, particularly macro-scale energy systems; familiarity with algebraic modeling languages used for linear and mixed integer programming (e.g. Julia/JuMP, Python/Pyomo, AMPL, GAMS); and comfort working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment.
Individuals with expertise in energy systems and a PhD in relevant fields (including mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, energy resources, and operations research) are encouraged to apply. All candidates must have strong, demonstrated research ability, be very comfortable in an interdisciplinary research environment, excellent English written and spoken communication skills, and a PhD in a relevant field.
We are interested in receiving applications from members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in science and engineering.
Appointment
The appointment will formally be for one year, but is expected to be a multi-year appointment subject to annual renewal contingent on performance and funding.
Application process
Applicants must apply online at Application for Postdoctoral Research Associate and submit a CV, cover letter, and contact information for three references. The candidate is subject to the University’s background check policy.
