Hi Openmodders,
PLEXOS, one of the world’s most widely used proprietary (and black-box) energy planning tools developed by Energy Exemplar, has sparked an interesting story. A student at the Technical University of Berlin was denied access to its license because a research group at another department is actively developing PyPSA—a free and open-source alternative to PLEXOS.
Prof. Tom Brown has shared the full story on LinkedIn, including an initial response from Energy Exemplar, the company behind PLEXOS. You can read it here: Tom Brown on LinkedIn: #freethemodels | 50 comments
Should this become common practice? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this!
Best wishes,
Max
