Call for tenders: Forecasting resource and material needs for Europe’s electricity grids

Hi, everyone!

RGI is searching for service providers with relevant experience in modelling the energy sector to conduct a study on the future resource and material requirements of Europe’s electricity grids.

As the EU accelerates its energy transition, disrupted supply chains and the limited availability of critical raw materials are emerging as key challenges for Europe’s energy transition. While grids are expanding to integrate renewables and meet EU climate goals, there is still no clear picture of how much and which materials are needed, nor how circularity and efficiency measures could reduce future demand.

To tackle this challenge, RGI is commissioning a study to forecast resource and material needs for European transmission and distribution grids up to 2050, with milestones for 2030 and 2040. The work will assess key grid components, supply chain readiness and the role of circular and efficiency measures, resulting in a public report, visualisations and open datasets to inform debate and planning.
