Dear Openmods,

The German Environment Agency’s Climate and Energy Strategies and Scenarios Team is responsible for reporting greenhouse gas emission projections in accordance with the EU Governance Regulation and the German Federal Climate Action Act.

We are expanding our open source and open data capabilities and are looking for an open source and open data enthusiast as a software and database developer and maintainer (100% FTE, permanent position)!

Key responsibilities include

  • developing an open source software and database for reporting the German greenhouse gas emission projections,
  • developing and maintaining the documentation,
  • applying the software and database for annual reporting,
  • continuous development in order to comply with open source/open data and legal requirements.

Work arrangements

  • Following the probationary period: hybrid model requiring 40% average monthly office presence

Working Environment
The German Environment Agency is Germany’s main environmental protection agency employing experts from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. We welcome applications from non-native German speakers. Since the application process is in German and the working environment is German speaking, strong German proficiency is essential for this role (CEFR level: C1). Good English language skills are required because the reporting on greenhouse gas emission projections is an EU obligation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Software Engineering, Data Science, Statistics; alternatively in Mathematics, Natural Science, Engineering, or equivalent skills and experiences
  • Professional experience in software development
  • Programming skills in at least one programming and database language (e.g. Python, R, Java, C-Sharp and SQL)
  • Knowledge of open, transparent and maschine-readable (Meta-)Data standards (e.g. DCAT-AP.de, sdmx, FAIR Principles)

Location

  • Dessau (job ticket option, frequent train connections to Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig, Magdeburg, Halle(Saale))
