Hello from Wien - Energy Systems & Policy Analyst

Hello everyone,

My name is Maria Delavega, an energy systems and policy analyst with a Master of Energy from the University of Auckland. I have a background in mechanical engineering (energy conversion) and strategic energy planning, with professional experience spanning utility corporate planning, sustainable cooling analysis, and energy economics research.

My primary focus is on power sector transition pathways, renewable energy integration, and grid access mechanisms in Indonesia. I recently published a peer-reviewed study in Energy Policy evaluating renewable energy pathways and emissions targets in Indonesia using an OSeMOSYS-based economic and sensitivity analysis. I attached it here.

I also conducted the modeling and analysis for a 100 GW solar scenario in Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia using Scenario Builder (TransitionZero’s product). You can find the blog here.

I am particularly interested in open energy system modeling frameworks such as PyPSA for energy dispatch to support transparent, data-driven policy design, grid integration. While much of my past work has centered on Indonesia, I am eager to expand my research scope to broader regional and global energy transitions, particularly exploring cross-border power integration, energy access, and decarbonisation strategies in other emerging economies.

I joined openmod to connect with the open energy modeling community, exchange insights on long-range energy planning, and learn from experienced modelers.

I’m very glad to be part of the community and look forward to engaging in discussions and future collaborations!

Best,

Maria
