- description: The inter-dependence of resources between sectors is critical to be represented and the development of open source tools enhance this communication between models. While energy system models regard water as a commodity and water demands for e.g. agricultural activities is disregarded, and hydrology model sees hydropower as a reservoir that disregard the energy market and flexibility measures, we aim at integrating energy system and water balance models for improved benefit sharing in transboundary regions. To this end, we are bringing a tool we are developing at VTT, IRENA FlexTool, forward, and linking it with an hydrology model to better assess investments decisions and power plant operations in the selected countries. This development, that is still in early phase, is supported by the TU-Nexus project (Tadjikistan-Uzbekistan Nexus) financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
